It's Called Bribery

This might look like a cat, but it is actually bribery. My first grader needed some extra motivation this month to stop crying in school, and this is it. I hope it works.
The body is made with fleece, and the rest is from a sock. It is now waiting patiently for a certain six year old to be able to claim it. She has named it "Zoinks" after our siamese cat.

It's Not a Sock

Okay, this cat isn't made from a sock, but since I made this blog, I get to make the rules for it. So, using my great power, I say that I can include nonsock creations in this blog whenever I feel like it. I used fleece to create this little feline. It was fun to see it go together. I had made a sketch of how I wanted it to work and then made up the rest of it as I sewed it together.
Here you can see the backside of the cat. I think next time I will make the nose pink instead of black. The black nose draws too much attention and competes with the eyes.

You Never Know What You'll Get

One of the things I like about making sock puppets is that no matter how much you sketch and plan in advance, you never really know what you are going to end up with until you are done. I like the whole randomness of it. This puppet reminded me of the stereotypical uncle who is a little on the strange side, and you don't know whether you really want him to show up at family parties or not. I thought he was cute in his own way, but I didn't like the way he was staring at me. It is probably appropriate that his picture is a little fuzzy.

What Is It?

Sunday morning, I woke up early and couldn't go back to sleep. As I was laying there in the dark, this popped into my head and wouldn't go away. What is it? I am not sure, but it demanded my attention and would not let me go until it became a reality. I had no choose but to create it yesterday afternoon. I think it is kind of cute whatever it is. Yes, it is made from a sock. When it was made, my son said, "Call it Jake." I think he needs to work a little more on the creative name department. Maybe, someone else has a good name for it. I am open to suggestions at the moment.

Dragons

I feel like I have made a lot of dragons lately. Dragons are fun to make because they can come in any shape and color without looking strange, and they have those cool wings. The dragon above was given to my oldest daughter for Christmas. She named it Apples.
This handsome dragon I named Cnut after a viking king. I happened to be listening to a college lecture on the Vikings at the time that I was sewing him. I can't quite picture him on the prow of a long ship. He just isn't scary enough.

A Sock Named Ryan

This is the sock puppet that my son received for Christmas.  He wanted it to have a hat which you can see in the photo below.
My son named him Ryan. I am not sure where he came up with that name. I don't think that it quite captures the personality that has popped out this sock. The name is way too calm. This fellow is not calm. Don't take him on a car trip with you as he tends to be a back seat driver. It is a little scary to be driving and all of a sudden you catch a glimpse of blue fuzz out of the corner of your eye. Turning, there is this button-eyed being practically biting your ear. Ryan definitely needs to stay in the back seat.
